The hamlet lies in the bottom of the valley formed by the River Avon and is divided into 3 sectors by the Kennet and Avon Canal, the railway and the River Avon. Avoncliff is dominated by the Avoncliff aqueduct which carries the Kennet and Avon Canal over the River Avon and the railway.
